What is important for consumers? Did you know, that 95% of shoppers surveyed said they had abandoned a purchase because their favorite delivery option was unavailable? The recent surveys submit it.

DHL surveyed over 11,500 active online shoppers from 23 countries across the globe, and has produced Online Shopper Survey alongside with the European Online Shopper Survey 2023.The shoppers were asked about a wide range of subjects, from their cross-border buying behavior to their attitudes to delivery and returns, to their views on sustainability. Their answers reveal the truth about their expectations of their current online shopping experience and what they want from it in the future. The survey covers all six major global markets: Europe, North America, Latin America (LATAM), the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), and Asia Pacific and China (APAC). 

Below are several findings we’ve highlighted from the report:
  • Over 60% of shoppers globally have bought clothing and footwear online from another country.
  • 70% of shoppers said knowing the delivery provider before buying was important, with 43% ready to abandon their purchase if they didn’t trust them.
  • 98% of shoppers in the survey said they were influenced by customer reviews.
  • More than 70% said sustainability was important and 49% are prepared to wait longer for their goods to be delivered, if it helps the environment.
The DHL Online Shopper Survey 2023 provides insight into the global e-commerce market as well as consumer preferences in specific markets. The global study was conducted in 13 global markets (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand, UAE and USA) as well as 10 European countries, and included 11,500 participants. The European study looks at countries including the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and Austria, and provides a cross-section based on a survey of more than 5,000 European online shoppers.
